Biography
Roger de Grey born in Penn, Buckinghamshire; nephew of the painter Spencer Gore. Studied at the Chelsea School of Art in 1936-39 and 1946-47, his teachers including Ceri Richards, Robert Medley and Raymond Coxon. Taught at King's College, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1947-1954, then until 1973 at Royal College of Art, where he became principal of City and Guilds of London Art School. From 1984-1993 was president of the Royal Academy. First solo show at at Agnew in 1954. Showed at Royal Academy and New Art Centre. Memorial show at RA in 1996. Knighted in 1991. Tate Gallery and Arts Council hold examples of his work.
